US switch to metric system

Ok, it's time, past time, really. The US needs to join the rest of the world on the metric system.

I like the fine gradation of temperature in F, I'm used to thinking in inches, feet, and miles, cm seem too small, meters too big, km too small, and so on -- but it won't take long to adjust. The #1 benefit is that the US would take a large step toward ceasing to look like a backwards, isolationist, Luddite country. We really look silly for that.

Even if it's done with a 5-year time horizon, even 10 years, I'd love to see us just announce it and move toward it.
